Thank You, Heichal!

Inclusion is often spoken of as something we extend to others—as though we are simply welcoming those who are different into “our” world. But true inclusion isn’t an act of generosity, it’s a recognition of reality. It reflects the understanding that every member of our community, regardless of ability or challenge, is already part of the whole. Inclusion, at its best, doesn’t stretch the boundaries of community—it reveals its true shape.

Nine years ago, when SINAI Schools needed a temporary home for our high school boys with special needs, Heichal HaTorah opened its doors to us. More importantly, under the visionary leadership of Rabbi Aryeh Stechler, Heichal opened its heart. The partnership that followed wasn’t defined by accommodation, but by authenticity. It wasn’t about “making room,” it was about recognizing the room that was always there.

Heichal HaTorah modeled inclusion not as a program or initiative, but as a sincere expression of its values. Our students were not “guests,” and they were never made to feel peripheral. They were part of the fabric of the yeshiva’s vibrant daily life—joining in tefillah, learning, shabbatonim, and the quiet rhythm of school culture. The experience affirmed something fundamental: that a yeshiva’s strength is measured not by uniformity, but by the breadth of the souls it nurtures.

As the SINAI@Heichal students transition back to TABC, our longtime institutional partner, in an expanded facility that can support all of our high school boys, we do so with profound gratitude to the Heichal HaTorah community. The past nine years at Heichal have epitomized what sincere inclusion looks like, sounds like, and feels like. Heichal reminded us all of what community truly means.
